Riparian Management in a Cultivated Landscape
With funding from the Canada-Saskatchewan Greencover program, we are on the ground in Northeast Saskatchewan, challenging farmers to link their economic realities with environmental protection. By changing to perennial crops in 'nooks and crannies' near waterbodies like the winding Carrot River, farmers reduce their inputs to the point they can make more money, farming less land. It's a win-win for the environment and farmer.

This fact-sheet provides alternatives to annual crop production in high overlap areas in stream meanders. Due to the high overlap, these areas cannot be farmed viably. Fortunately the alternatives presented here can improve the producers' bottom line. These environmentally sensitive areas will be protected by the conversion to perennial species in these areas.
