The CLC is proud to announce their newly formed partnership with The Saskatchewan Research Council. This five year agreement will see a significant increase in the level of research conducted at the CLC. The CLC looks forward to building this new relationship and welcomes the SRC to Prince Albert and area.
July, 2009 - Beware Richardson Ground Squirrels
This year, the CLC was very fortunate to have Malerie Gabriel employed as our summer technician. Her contributions to the success of the farm were very appreciated. The photo below is courtesy of Malerie's trail cam that was installed over one of the Richardson Ground Squirrel's tunnels. You'll notice from the size of the hole that a badger had already tried his luck at finding some lunch. We're not sure if this weasel below was fortunate to have a late supper, but we do appreciate the time he took to pose for the camera. Notice the size of his front feet.
March, 2009 - CLC's 1st Annual Fishing Derby
The weather was excellent and the company even better. A group of avid outdoorsman participated in the CLC's 1st Ice Fishing Derby held on Anglin Lake. The fishing was slow but fast enough for Robin Woodward to catch the largest fish to win the derby. Not only was Robin's fish the largest, it was also the only fish caught! We hope the fishing at the next annual derby will be more productive.
The Corn Maze is cut and ready to be explored! This year the maze is located west of the yard. There is no fee for the maze and you are welcome to come out at any time. Click here to see a map on how to get to the CLC and a map of the yard.

Curtis Braaten took over the managerial position on April 1st. He has an extensive knowledge of the agriculture industry, as he farmed for most of his life. During the last decade, he has focused on agro-forestry initiatives and is currently involved in the fruit industry. We look forward to Curtis' future at the Conservation Learning Centre.

The Conservation Learning Centre released the fact sheet "Economic Alternatives to cropping adjacent to riparian areas". The fact sheet provides alternatives to annual crop production in high overlap areas in stream meanders. Due to the high overlap, these areas cannot be farmed viably. Fortunately the alternatives presented can improve producers' bottom lines. These environmentally sensitive areas will be protected by the conversion to perennial species in these areas.
